![]() When you are stuck at the Hilton at the airport, it's a good place to eat. I had been to a Ruth's Chris Steakhouse a week ago, and the cost was about the same with much better quality. Unfortunately, the food didn't match the cost. My desert of a simple scoop of rum/raison ice cream was 5.75. I had a cup of coffee at the end and it was 4.25. Salad was 7.75, my plain baked potato was 5.25. Prices were also a little high for the food. Personally, I prefer crisp skin on a baked potato. The skin was a little soft as if it had been sitting for a while. ![]() The baked potato I ordered was just that a plain baked potato. It was a little closer to medium-rare, but not bad. I had the Caesar salad and the "Gaslight" steak, which I believe is rib-eye. I felt a little isolated as there were a few other patrons in the place, but near the bar. In that atmosphere and with the history of the club, I would have expected a little more outgoing, "raucous" server? I was seated near the front of the restaurant, away from the bar. My server was indeed a beautiful lady, but she almost seemed a little timid. The host explained he was just filling in until my sever was available. But within 15 minutes I had a new server. I started to get a little disappointed that my server wasn't a beautiful lady in the "Gaslight" outfit. ![]() At first my server was the older gentleman who was at the host desk in front. My service was a little slow, but it could be because they had just opened for dinner and there were few staff there initially. I had a one day stay at the Hilton O'Hare Airport, and spotted this restaurant. Hilton - wake up! You used to be upscale, what happened? Consider putting a well-lighted modern restaurant, serving fresh innovative cuisine, in this facility, and lose the sleazy "men's club" atmosphere. The dining room, which you enter through a door labeled "telephone" (booth) was very dark and unappealing. The standard seafood appetizers seemed to please people, but to my taste, I would bet they had spent some time in the freezer prior to cooking. ![]() The food was only marginal: heavy on the steaks and greasy chicken smothered in cheese. I learned later that the old Chicago Gaslight Clubs were the "inspiration" for Hugh Hefner's Playboy Clubs in the 60's - there's a reason those clubs are largely defunct. There is no reason to dress professional waitstaff in this manner. Actually, outdated and stupid for any purpose. ugh! It was embarrassing and inappropriate for business. As a woman business executive, I am not comfortable being served by women who are dressed so scantily: tight corsets, revealing bustiers, fishnet stockings. Business dinner that night was scheduled for the Gaslight Club. I've had the famous Sazerac in New Orleans and I can tell you that you don't have to go all the way to New Orleans to get a really smooth and tasty Sazerac.Staying overnight at the Chicago O'Hare Hilton, a fairly nice business hotel, we had a two day meeting on site. ![]() This is a drink that involves the correct proportions of rye whiskey (originally cognac), Peychaud's bitters, sugar cube, a lemon peel, and maybe some absinthe. I decided to try the drink that New Orleans is famous for-the Sazerac. The cole slaw was actually in the sandwich with the fresh fried shrimp and this combination was actually, surprisingly good! Very tasty. We ordered the shrimp po-boys with cole slaw and fries.wow, they were great! In fact, they didn't taste like any sandwich we'd had before. We landed here and, upon first glance, thought we were entering a sports bar.True, there were people huddled around the numerous televisions and the sounds of football games permeated the atmosphere, we didn't know what to expect. We always look for something different and, on great memories of the food experience we had in New Orleans, got a taste for something Louisianian in the Valley. ![]()
